Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain

Strengths: Great graphics and Season Mode, Legends

Weakness: Just an update to previous Smackdown games

Here comes the Pian is the 3rd Smackdown game on the PS2. They just keep getting better with each passing year. This time, there is a Season Mode, where you help build your character up and take him through storylines just like in the WWE. Also, several Legends are included in this version including Sgt. Slaughter, The Million-Dollar Man, and Jimmy Snuka. A worthy addition to anyones growing...

A huge step forward in the Smackdown series

Strengths: new gameplay elements that add lots of depth; very strong roster of characters; great selection of match modes to choose from

Weakness: single-player story mode gets repetitive; game engine occasionally shows its age; no online

The fifth entry in the successful Smackdown series took several steps to improve the basic gameplay. The grappling system was overhauled, with a new two-stage grapple that expanded the available moves from 12 to 16. A new body damage system was implemented, which added a whole new layer of strategy. The old "block" move was re-mapped to separate strike and grapple reversal buttons, again moving...

WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain for PlayStation 2

Strengths: This is an Awesome game. Two thumbs up!!! It has alot of new features that make the game more fun to play. Additional characters, types of matches, moves, combos and greater interactivity.

Weakness: The graphics are very nice, but they can still be improved. However, they are top rank in comparison to other wrestling games out now.

I have been a wrestling fan for quite some time now; and I have to say this is a game you have got to buy !!! You can sit for hours on end playing this game, because time just flies by.

Best WWE game on the PS2 to date

Strengths: +Deep roster +Great storymode +Variety of match types (Elimination chamber) +backstage areas +great create a wrestler +good unlockables

Weakness: -Graphics -No online play -Too easy for veterans

To date, WWE Smackdown HCTP is the best WWE game on the PS2. Everything WWE Smackdown vs Raw messed up, WWE HCTP excels at, except for graphics. HCTP has a great large roster, and has an excellent story mode. The HCTP story mode is much more open ended which allows for alot more variety. HCTP story mode also keeps track of your win/lose record and belts won. The wrestling engine is also good in...

here comes the pain!!

Strengths: Great new additions to previous versions

Weakness: graphics

Here Comes The Pain is definately the best in the series. The number of moves has improved, the grappling system has improved, the number of characters has been upped, the types of battles are great, and the battle system has been improved. Overall, things which were pretty good to begin with were improved to make them great. The only major downside is there isn't online play. That and the...

Calling all WWE fans

Strengths: + deep grappling/fighting system for hardcore gamers + graphics are great compared to other wrestling games but just okay when compared to other games.

Weakness: - steep learning curve for beginners

If you've got a wrestling fan in the family, then Smackdown Here Comes the Pain should fulfill all their wrestling needs. Like other sports games, the roster is a bit dated today but overall not much has changed in terms of gameplay. Smackdown has almost all the different types of wrestling matches - steel cage, ladders matches, even female matches. Looking for a cheap but great wrestling game,...

WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain for PlayStation 2

Strengths: + the character models are nicely done + deep grappling system

Weakness: - too many buttons to remember - no announcers

If you're looking for a wrestling game Smackdown: Here comes the Pain is one of the best out there. It has tons of characters with a few unlockable ones like the Demolition Men and the original Undertaker. It has a lot of different types of matches so it'll keep you entertained. The only thing I didn't like about it was that for a beginner, the game was quite hard. The grappling system is very...

WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain for PlayStation 2

Strengths: Graphics, story mode, feels authentic, better roster then Smackdown vs. Raw.

Weakness: Clipping issues, no online play, a big over improvement over last year.

THQ has done a great job gradually improving the series. Smackdown has gradually gone from the loose arcade feel to a more responsive game with tight controls. Here Comes the Pain is the continuation of that evolution. All the great wrestlers are here and I would say it has a much better roster then the sequel (Smackdown versus Raw). Stone Cold and Goldberg are still in this game. Even if you own...

WWE Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain

The WWE franchise just keeps on going and going, and with each SmackDown game THQ comes closer and closer to wrestling perfection. We’ve seen the series offer more than just new grapplers, but also game modes and refinements of all the classic game modes we’ve just come to really enjoy when we want to lay the hurt on big guys like Kurt Angle or Triple H. With WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the...

WWE SmackDown! Here Comes Pain

As a fan of AKI and THQ's collaborations from the past, and AKI's wrestling engine in general, the THQ and Yukes games have always left me a bit cold. They have been clinical exercises in imitation, allowing fans customization, fluid animations, topnotch ring entrances, but a wrestling system that was dull and repetitive. Smackdown! Here Comes the Pain finally fixes the game's major issue, in an...

WWE SmackDown! Here Comes Pain

Originally spawned out of the same ideals that created the excellent Toukon Retsuden series, fans of THQ's Smackdown franchise have always kept their expectations phenomenally high. It was, after all, the first McMahon-licensed videogame to be wrestled away from Acclaim's 12-year reign; and the first product that industry insiders continually look towards as the foremost representative of its...
