The vast, peaceful planet of Hyllis has fallen under siege by a relentless alien race. After a devastating battle, a Hyllian named Jade is relieved to find that the planet's defensive forces, the Alpha Sections, have saved the populace from certain destruction, as they have always done in this age-old conflict. But when Jade takes a mysterious reconnaissance assignment for IRIS, a rebel organization that challenges the official version of events, she must question her own perception of truth. Shaken by what she discovers, Jade begins a harrowing journey to get to the core of the conspiracy. Beyond Good and Evil (GC)

Strengths: (1) Great, unique story (2) Various, well integrated styles of gameplay (3) Well developed characters immerse you into the universe

Weakness: (1) Does not display in Progressive Scan so it won't look as nice on a HDTV

Beyond Good and Evil is exactly the kind of game I wish more developers would produce. The best thing about this game is the depth of the characters and story - just about everything you do in the game drives the story. Beyond Good and Evil really feels like an interactive, animated adventure. You'll do everything from piloting vehicles and battle invading aliens with your staff, to taking...

BG&E

Strengths: Everything

Weakness: Short. Fighting isn't as it exciting as it could be.

Beyond Good and Evil illustrates what is wrong with games today. A beautiful game, with compelling mature content, and a strong female lead. So of course it proceeds to bomb. Beyond Good and Evil is a game the delves into cultural issues and what constitutes freedom and our relationship with government. Jade is an orphan in a futuristic world that is inhabited by both humans and anthropomorphic...

Watch out Louis Lane

Strengths: Very well made game. Nice mix of dark story and cutesy graphics. Intersting photo-taking element.

Weakness: Combat isn't the most exciting.

This is a very interesting take on a Zelda like game. While the art design might not be "mature", I would say the story definately is. The game might have the cartoony trappings of a disney movie, but the story line is definately much darker than the art would lead you to believe. If anyone remembers the movie "Titan A.E.", I would compare it's mixture of kiddiness and desperate overtones to...

Beyond Good and Evil

Strengths: Unique storyline supported by excellent adventure and puzzle solving gameplay, excellent graphics and some good music

Weakness: Somewhat short, controls are just a bit twitchy, the ending is lacking, leaves much unanswered.

Beyond Good and Evil is a highly recommended, surprisingly unknown action/adventure game. The basic adventure involves a mix of collecting items, snapping photos of creatures, and solving puzzles, with some decent combat thrown in as well. The best feature of this game, though, is the surprisingly serious storyline. Although many of the game's characters are humorously designed, they become...

Beyond Good and Evil

Strengths: Interesting story, solid graphics

Weakness: Very short

Beyond Good and Evil is a very good adventure game, where you'll be running around taking pictures and sometimes pilot a hovercraft. The graphics are stellar, as are the sound effects and background music. The voice acting is even better, especially given how obscure this game is. Overall, a good (but short) experience.

Reporting in...

Strengths: Unique gameplay mechanics, solid graphics

Weakness: Camera is a little glitchy

Playing as Jade, you're out to save the world from evil, one photograph at a time. The most fascinating thing about this game so far is the photography. You earn money/credits by taking pictures of all the wildlife in the world and submitting it to a periodical. This is presumably a part of the gamplay for the extent of the game though I haven't played far enough to know. This facet almost brings...

A memorable adventure!

Strengths: Immersive world; gorgeous, stylized graphics; incorporates many gameplay styles without any of them feeling forced or awkward; Story, characters, and voice acting are all outstanding

Weakness: it ends before you want it to end!

Within minutes of playing Beyond Good & Evil, I was sucked in by the immersive environents, a convincing ambient soundscape, and impressive stylized visuals (which I found very reminiscent of the film "Titan A.E," another financial failure that I happen to love). Early in the game, there was a key moment where I was walking around the home of Jade, the games protagonist. As I talked to the...

Beyond Good and Evil

Strengths: Great Graphics, Great Story, Great Fun

Weakness: Somewhat short of a game

Reminiscent of a Zelda-type game with a buddy system, Beyond Good and Evil is a unique and fun game. Its delightful use of a camera as a tool makes the game even more fun. The intriguing storyline unfolds as you progress further into the game, making you want to keep playing until you finish it. The game runs a bit short, but leaves it open for a sequel. Underrated game that could've gotten more...

Beyond Good and Evil

Strengths: Fantastic engaging storyline, graphics

Weakness: Somewhat predictable at times, sidekick is slightly annoying

Fantastic new take on adventure games. While this game is in the spirit of games like Legend of Zelda, it has its own unique approach that truly differentiates it from the pack. The use of the camera as a tool is not only different, it is fun and really is used to propel the story in unique ways. I love the way you slowly uncover more and more information to get at the full story. The game is a...

Beyond Good and Evil

Strengths: Excellent action/adventure game with tight control; great voice acting and artwork; interesting story

Weakness: Considerably shorter than I expected

A truly excellent game -- one that I was frankly surprised didn't come from Nintendo, and sad to hear that it sold so poorly that it got almost instantly discounted mere months later. Beyond Good & Evil is a tale of aliens, government conspiracies, and a young photographer who is caught up in it all. It's a pretty good story, to be sure, but the gameplay is superb -- the comparison to Legend of...

Beyond Good & Evil | GameCube

Meet Jade. Shes a brunette beauty with an eye for mystery and a camera to uncover it. When the would-be heroines futuristic planet is threatened by aliens, Jade finds herself thrust into the heart of a vicious conspiracy that could stretch to the very top of her government. This stylized, extremely gorgeous third-person action-adventure plays very much like a Zelda game. Jade can explore a huge,...
