Graphic horror set in a terrifying locale

Strengths: Detailed atmosphere; creepy sound design; multiple endings

Weakness: Repetive gameplay; confusing controls

The player takes on the role of Torque, a death row inmate accused of brutally slaying his family, awaiting his execution on an island jail in Maryland. It doesn't take too long for all hell to break loose. Monsters take over the jail, killing (more like disemboweling and dismembering) guards and other inmates. From this point the player must guide Torque through the jail teeming with monsters...

The Suffering

Strengths: Great atmosphere, interesting story, great controls.

Weakness: The game is a bit short, extreme violence and cursing may offend some

The Suffering is a decent survival horror game set in a prison. It has excellent control, as well as an incredible story, which is further enhanced due to the atmosphere. The game is full of violence and cursing though, so if that's not your thing this may not be the game for you. If you can get past this, the game has some wonderful gameplay, and is highly recommeded for any survival horror fan.

The Suffering

Midway, a company recognized for their stable of arcade style games and over the top sports titles, tries their hand at something completely removed from their current library of games with The Suffering. The Suffering tells the tale of Torque, a man condemned to die by lethal injection for the “alleged” brutal murders of his wife and two children, who’s destined to spend his final days at...

The Suffering (ps2)

Starting your magazine advertisement campaign with a decapitated head stuck down a prison toilet splattered with fecal matter? This can be the handiwork of only one company. No, not Nintendo; we're talking about the schlock-and shock-peddling superstars of interactive entertainment: Midway. This time though, there's the intact skeleton of a great game waiting there, under all that offal. The...

The Suffering (ps2)

As if prison weren't bad enough, with hazing in the yard, shanking on the row and brutality in the shower room, imagine having to put down a horde of monsters from the bowels of hell in your spare time. That's exactly what you're charged with doing in The Suffering, a brand new title from Surreal Software and Midway Games.
