Dragonball Z for Gamecube

Strengths: *cel-shaded graphics are cool* - *Story mode is good for DB:Z fans*

Weakness: *battle system isn't good* - *Characters are not really unique*

I'm not a big fan of Dragonball Z. I've actually never seen the show before. I only bought the game because I found it for $2 new, and figured you really can't beat that price, even if it sucks. The old saying is true - 'You get what you pay for'. Not having the fan background - I really didn't get much out of this game. It's somewhat pretty graphics wise, but gameplay isn't too hot. You can't do...

Dragon Ball Z Budokai

Strengths: Very effective use of the Dragon Ball license. Decently similar art style.

Weakness: Almost everything else.

This is a good game for all those that are fans of the cartoon. Not only does it have a story that is very reminiscent of a lost episode, the fighting has all the over the top silliness we have come to expect from the cartoon. It also looks very much like the cartoon, but hand drawn sprites might have served it better here. There was not enough to the fighting to warrant making this a 3d game....

Dragon Ball Z Budokai

Strengths: It's Dragon Ball Z

Weakness: Graphics could have been more detailed

Dragon Ball Z Budokai is a 3D fighting game which brings the Dragon Ball Z to the GameCube in a very true to DBZ way. The game has sound effects, music, and voice acting that are taken straight from the cartoon giving it a very audio authentic sound to the game. You can choose from 23 different characters from the DBZ universe and even play from the Saiyan Saga to the Cell Game Era giving the...

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai

Strengths: Roster of characters from DBZ universe Graphical style

Weakness: Gameplay may lack depth for expert players Limited movesets

Overall this game is very enjoyable given you enjoy the DBZ universe and its characters. There aren't many modes of play to get into, but what is offered does its job. Playing against your friends is where the game shines, as you can battle with your favorite character and see who is best.

Dragonball Z Budokai

Strengths: Cool story mode, surprisingly good music, better than DBZ: Sagas

Weakness: Gameplay is very dated now thanks to it's sequels.

Dragonball Z Budokai is a port of the playstation 2 game of the same name. It is essentially the same except for the new cel-shaded look and new soundtrack or two. Budokai really loses whatever charm it had thanks to it's two sequels but I did find the game's story mode to be worth revisiting since it has some interesting cut scenes. The gameplay is really shallow with limited character moves and...

As the late, great Johnny Turbo once said:

Strengths: Really fancy cover art, Goku looks evil!

Weakness: Cell Jrs aren't playable! It doesn't even compare!

Okay, so the cool thing about this game is that you can totally flip out and kill people except it's with weird alien people. Saiyans and Nameks you know. I should know this, I play this game and beat Ammar(who's super cheap) all the time! Well the cool thing is that the graphics are cel-shaded which looks better than the PS2 version and you've got your fancy Gamecube controller to use now that...

A simple fighter

Strengths: Very faithful to the television series

Weakness: Lack of depth

Fans of the Dragon Ball Z series will enjoy the opportunity to progress through the story mode in this game, which gives players the opportunity to experience many of the epic battles depicted in the cartoon. The story mode is even set up like the cartoon -- there's the familiar voice over, "episode" titles, and almost all of the original voice actors from the series. If only the game play had...

Rock the Dragon

Strengths: Cel-shaded visuals over the PS2 original, air battling

Weakness: Limited move set, needs more balancing and polish

The world-famous Dragon Ball Z license, already made into several fighting games in Japan, saw a new US attempt with Dragon Ball Z Budokai. This Gamecube version has the added feature of a cel-shaded graphical style, whereas the original PS2 release had a basic "normal" look to it. The cel-shading really helps the tie-in to the series, but it can't hide the basic and unpolished gameplay...

Dragon Ball Z Budokai

It's hard to give a Dragon Ball fan any reason not to buy Budokai. Yet at the same time, it's hard to give any non-fan a reason to buy it, especially if they are a fighting game veteran. The fighting mechanics are overly simplistic and lacking depth -- it's almost as if the game started out as more of a fighting/adventure hybrid instead of a straightforward fighting game. As it is, though, the...
