Seagate Barracuda ATA V 120 GB Internal Hard Drive -...

Strengths: Quiet

Weakness: Runs hot

It's as quiet as advertised, but it really does generate more heat than I expected. As a result the case fan runs more. Then again, I have it in a small mini-itx case so a larger case may be able to dissapate the heat better

Seagate Barracuda ATA V 120 GB Internal Hard Drive -...

Strengths: Very, Very quiet. Nearly Silent. Quick. Lot's of capacity, good performer.

Weakness: none

All the benefits of the Barracuda ATA IV, but has more capcity, and is even more quiet. The CPU ans PS fans in my case are much louder than the drive, so the only way to know it's doing it's job is to see the HDD light flashing. It doesn't miss a beat while I'm doing 10 different things at once, like running applications, listening to MP3's and surfing. I have yet to hear it skip or stutter. You...

Weakness: Not a Weakness per seay however, one must understand that if using the ATA type of HDD with a non-ATA slave it is better to configure them as cable select (CS) vice MASTER SLAVE

The reason I chose this HDD was the fact it was an ATA vice a run of the mill IDE (actually they're all IDE) but, for what I do making DVD's, editing video and converting tape to DVD the ATA type drives work the best. For example, While I love Western Digital HDD's, the SEAGATE ATA HDD will allow me to covert a typical 2hr. movie from VHS to DVD within about 40-45 mins. If I used a IDE HDD or non...
