Asus A7V8X Athlon/Duron/XP, Socket A, ATX, 3 GB...

Strengths: Lots. Extrmely stable with the evil Matrox drivers

Weakness: SATA headers are in the way of full length PCI cards. PCI slot#2 shares IRQ with AGP slot (maybe not a weakness, but unusual) The instructions for setting up SATA RAID are pathetic in the manual.

I am using the board for an audio workstation. I am running two Matrox G450 dual head video cards AGP and PCI, 3 x Audio DSP cards in PCI slots 1, 3 and 5 and a controller card for an SBS PCI expansion chassis in PCI slot 6. The chassis has two more audio DSP cards. I chose this board for the VIA KT 400 chipset which is the most stable chipset I've found with the Matrox drivers. I am using 1024...

Asus A7V8X Athlon/Duron/XP, Socket A, ATX, 3 GB...

Strengths: Very fast to boot up and is so far very stable. All of the drivers except for the USB controller were on the motherboard cd which made things very easy to setup.

Weakness: the motherboard cd that comes with the motherboard does not have drivers for the usb 2.0 controller. sort of a pain.

I really do like this motherboard, it is extremely fast to boot up. It is relatively forgiving. For the price of this motherboard it is great. Everything when situated and settled, this motherboard is very stable. It did have usb 2.0 controller driver issues at first but I fixed that by putting in my XP cd and directing the computer (add new hardware) to look in my CD drive. That took care of the...

Asus A7V8X Athlon/Duron/XP, Socket A, ATX, 3 GB...

Strengths: Fast, easy setup, loads of features

Weakness: None I have seen yet

This is about the 15th machine I've built, and by far the fastest. I'm using the board with an Athlon XP 2600, a Highpoint Rocket Raid card, with two Maxtor 80 Gigs with 8MB Cache, and a ATI Radion 8500LE All in Wonder card, and 512GB Kingston memory. I'd recommend this board to anyone looking for top performance

Asus A7V8X Athlon/Duron/XP, Socket A, ATX, 3 GB...

Strengths: fast, reliable, features

Weakness: none that affect me

Built it for gaming (quake3, ut2k3, deusex, rtcw, ect, ect) and as a sterio for my thousands of mp3's, i've had no problems with it or any other component i used, i guess i'm just good at picking these things out ;) the speed of this kt400 chipset combined with a athlon 2400 xp is amazing, my mom has a brand new 2.6 ghz pentium 4 VPR matrix and my 2.0ghz athlon blows hers away byfar, she lags alot...

Asus A7V8X Athlon/Duron/XP, Socket A, ATX, 3 GB...

Strengths: Fast, fast, fast, plus (basically) Linux-compatible.

Weakness: Powered USB port issues on Linux. Failed powerup after three months!

Some folks on linuxcompatible.org have reported issues with the powered USB 2.0 ports and with the built-in Broadcom ethernet. I don't use the former but am using the latter successfully, so that's behind them. Anyway, it's fast as all get out (if the benchmarks are correct, about 13x faster than the dual Celeron 400 box it's supplanting) and looks to be a very successful (if somewhat noisy --...

Asus A7V8X Athlon/Duron/XP, Socket A, ATX, 3 GB...

Strengths: Lots of Features, Easy Setup, Stable and Reliable, VERY Fast

Weakness: Potential Problems with powered USB Hubs

I bought this board to replace a Giga-Byte GA-7VRXP that was a nightmare from the word go. By contrast this board has been everything I hoped. Aside from one minor glitch it hasn't given me any trouble and its blazing fast. I was amazed at just how much faster my system boots. Its stable, fast, and has all the features one could hope to find. My one issue was that with a self powered USB hub...
