WD Caviar 40 GB Internal Hard Drive - 1 Pack

Strengths: Speed! Need anything else in a drive?

Weakness: I have found none. Just download the WD setup software from the WD site as OEM does not come with it.

Quite and really fast! I am ordering another right after this review for another system. It does come close to SCSI performance... but not quite. The new ATA150's might actually match a SCSI drives performance, but I'll have to wait three years to be able to afford one. This a great ecconomical drive. Don't sell the 40GB short on space... it is a massive amount of storage for most home users.

WD Caviar 40 GB Internal Hard Drive - 1 Pack

Strengths: Very fast and very very quiet!! 3 year warranty

Weakness: Jumper thing's were too loose, had to use the ones from old hard drive.

Excellent drive and a 3 year warranty too, can't go wrong there. Highly reccomend this drive. If you don't know what your doing though, I would reccomend getting the retail version or going to WD website and downloading the install software onto a floppy disk before you try and install this drive.

WD Caviar 40 GB Internal Hard Drive - 1 Pack

Strengths: Fast and quiet

Weakness: Had to run a complete scan disk and defrag to get this HDD working as it should

I installed this drive as a slave to hold video, music and picture files. The WD Data Lifeguard Tools made installation easy. However, it ran dog slow. I ran defrag, but I got a disk error message. I ran a Thorough Scandisk, which took hours, then ran defrag again. It took only minutes to defrag the disk. Now the drive runs like a bat out of hell. It's fast and very quiet. Plan to replace my...

WD Caviar 40 GB Internal Hard Drive - 1 Pack

Strengths: Good speed

Weakness: A little noisy, I've heared (or not heard) quieter

Like the other reviewers I too had to use the lifeguard utilites to "write zeros" to the entire drive (about 20 min.) with the help of tech support. He acted as if he had never heard of this before but was very helpful. I bought a second for myself and am buying annother for a friend!

WD Caviar 40 GB Internal Hard Drive - 1 Pack

Strengths: Zhhoommmmmm!!!! Better than Quantuim Fireball 2.5 GB 5400 RPM hard drive with measly cache. WD hddr with 8mb cache is more than enuf!

Weakness: Uhhh haven't seen any plm with it?! and no instruction manual plus floppy diskettes? Guess it's cheaper buy without it. Nuh a problem with it.

I installed WD Cavair hddr and partitationed to FAT32 and formatted it with MS Statup Disk. Then set WD to SLAVE and using "HardDrive Copy" program downloaded from CNET (didn't have WD Lifesaver Disk Tool program..). Copied it from my original slowie Fireball drive, powered down the system. Yanked out old Quantuim Fireball 2.5GB hddr and set WD Cavair 40GB (38GB formatted)to MASTER (AARRGGHH!!)....

WD Caviar 40 GB Internal Hard Drive - 1 Pack

Strengths: Fast, quiet, great price.

Weakness: None so far

I upgraded my compaq presario to this WD 40gb drive after my WD 20gb hard drive became too slow for me. I also upgraded to windows 2000 from windows ME (I had too many issues with windows ME). What a difference!!! This drive is lightning fast. I reformatted my old 20gb drive and use it as a slave for music files and games. Everything works great. This is my first drive I replace. I just did a...

excellent

Strengths: Excellent. Fast and very quiet.

Weakness: None.

Just good! Definitely get this one. If 40GB is all you need, then you couldn't get a better drive. Will use again. Update: I've had this for 1yr 4mos now, and it still works great. Very reliable.
