PS3 40G console

Strengths: Quiet, less heat than other PS3 models

Weakness: not compatible to old PS2 games

PS3 is a great console. I indeed like playing this over Wii. The main reason is that I can download playable demo of new games, such that I can try playing to see which games I really like to buy it. In addition, being a Blu-ray player is a plus.

Playstation 3 40GB

Strengths: Blu-Ray HD, 1080P

Weakness: Cost of console and accessories (i.e. extra controller & remote)

The Sony PS3 is an awesome do everything home entertainment unit. For the price of a stand alone BLu-Ray player, the PS3 is the way to go. Beautiful Blu-Ray playback in full 1080P HD. Also once connected to the internet, the firmware stays up to date and one can purchase additional games, view movie trailers and surf the web.

Top of the line

Strengths: Sturdy/solid unit, very powerful, can be networked and can access the Internet

Weakness: A bit pricey, runs quite warm, doesn't play PS2 games (at least not the 40 Gb version, according to other reviews), only two USB ports so need USB hub for Rock Band

This is really quite an amazing product. This is very well built - no shortcuts on quality here. The unit is very sturdy and solid; this is not a cheap plastic box! What one really has here is a powerful computer packaged as a game system. The interfaces on this unit are sweet - USB connections for the accessories! For once Sony hasn't gone with their own proprietary interface. However, there are...

Good for both blu-ray and game player

Strengths: PC+blu-ray+game

Weakness: pricey for game and blu-ray disc

PS3 is pricey, but a side-by-side comparison with Xbox 360 reveals it’s a better value. Included on the PlayStation 3: Integrated Blu-ray player, web browser, and WiFi. Unlike Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 also offers free access to its online environment. PlayStation has its multimedia role with strong photo and slide-show support with Memory Stick Duo, SD & Compact Flash Slots on its high-end...

Good entertaintment system, overpriced however BLU...

Strengths: Blu Ray playback, easy PSP like menu

Weakness: No HDMI cable included, cannot play PS2/PS1 games unless you buy the high end 80GB edition.

Excellent for playing Blu Ray movies, includes a Wireless PS3 Sixaxis remote, however I have found the cable to charge it to be too short. The graphics are OK, but my best friends XBOX 360 two years old has a more powerful graphics processor than the PS3, however it lacks HDMI. New XBOX 360 (elite) include said HDMI output, and for the extra money you get a way better system (graphics wise, in my...

Great Christmas Gift!

Strengths: Amazing quality, sleek design, no memory card, wireless-awesome system.

Weakness: A bit expensive.

I didn't have a problem getting it to play ps2 games, they worked just as well as the 3s. It's really a cool system, now we are getting a HDTV so that we can use the blue ray feature to it's fullest (you can't see a major difference unless you have the "whole" system). Can't wait to watch 300 in HighDef! I would really suggest it, the only issue I've got is that it's pretty expensive right now....

The Best

Strengths: MLB games the best on PS3 which is exclusive, built in wi-fi, free online gaming, GTA IV and Gran Turismo 5, upgradeable HDD.

Weakness: No PS2 support but not really needed

I owned my Xbox 360 first got the Nintendo Wii second and got this 40gb PS3 on christmas. The Xbox died 3 times and Microsofts support people are rude and stupid I got back an old console and it sounds like a lawn mower. My PS3 on the other hand is great, silent, and shiny. The blu-ray makes a big difference in HD and I just love MLB 08 the show for PS3 best baseball game thats a sony exclusive....

Great for Home Theater

Strengths: Blue-Ray Disc Player

Weakness: Cannot really be used as a Linux box (very limited graphic support then).

The PS3 has been connected to the home theater in my barn, hd projector, 100 inches screen, 7 speakers surround sound... Playing blue-ray disc movies is astounding (way better than at the movie theater). Playing games (such as Motor-storm) is quite addictive, tons of fun for the kids and growned up alike... Well worth the 400$. And yes, if you wonder, Blue-Ray Disc is the winner of the format war...

PS3 40gb w/ Spiderman BluRay DVD

Strengths: HD gaming, Blu Ray DVD player

Weakness: Could've included the DVD remote instead of being a $25 option.

This is a great system for a next generation DVD player. I received this as a Blu Ray DVD player and nbot mainly as a gaming system but I will be rocking out to RockBand once my local Circuit City has it back in stock. With this system you don't run the chance of having a $400 paper weight if for some crazy reason HD DVD wins the war (which I don't believe they will)you'll still have a great...

No PS2 play

Strengths: Nice on line interaction

Weakness: Cannot play any of our PS2 games on it as it was advertised it could.

Am very disappointed that PS2 games connot be played. That was one of the main reasons we decided to buy this system over the others. Hope they came out with a software patch that will allow it to work as claimed.

Sony PlayStation 3 (40GB)

THE GOOD: Swanky design with quiet operation; all games in high-definition; PSP-like easy-to-use interface; plays high-def Profile 2.0 Blu-ray movies in addition to upscaling standard DVDs; built-in Wi-Fi; 40GB hard drive; online play is free; HDMI output with 1080p support; no external power supply. THE BAD: No flash media reader; cant play PS2 games; doesnt include rumble controller; a USB port...
