Vivendi Universal Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn

Strengths: Great combat interface, tons of spell/melee/ranged fighting strategies. Great story, great character development, TONS of replay value.

Weakness: Characters walk SLOWLY across screen panels. Pathfinding gets annoying.

A steal at $14. This game is EPIC. Storylines and character conversation is extremely well-written. Combat system doesn't get stale -- lots of different strategies for taking on the tougher enemies in the last third of the game. Tons of replay value with different choices you make directing the plot of the game itself. The first third of the game is as open-ended as any of the much-ballyhooed...

Vivendi Universal Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn

Strengths: The finest RPG I have ever played. Probably the best game period.

Weakness: Only that it had to end. Luckily, there is an expansion pack - Throne of Bhaal.

This is the pinnacle of RPG design and it really does stand head and shoulders above the rest. It has a huge world with a great story and tons of optional subplots. The character creation system is full of all sorts of cool options and there are hundreds of items and spells. There is no suprise to see it rated as the 2nd best computer game of all time (behind Halflife) at www.gamerankings.com.

Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn

Editor's Note: This review was revised 10/23/00 to correct two minor inaccuracies. “Shall we go? The butts of evil await my bootprint!” – Minsc. Beyond Baldur’s Gate lies another world, one of insipid evil where the nature of your hero will be revealed. The child of the Lord of Murder, your destiny awaits. But will you side with the dark forces, or deny the evil within you and battle for...

Baldurs Gate II ShadowsAmn

We knew it was coming. The success of Baldur's Gate left little doubt that there was to be a sequel. There were whispers and off the record comments about it at E3 1999, a great behind closed doors showing at E3 2000, and as it loomed closer and closer over the horizon the last several months, hordes of in-game screen shots saturated popular gaming websites. But, until someone actually played it,...
