Strengths: Top-notch controls, great graphics, good sounds, well done online play with XBox Live

Weakness: Annoying announcer voice, "create-a-golfer" mode could be better

Great golf gameplay with excellent online play round out Links 3004.

Great graphics are the first thing that stand out with this game. The courses, the animations, they all do well to show off how nice Links 2004 looks. The sound is almost as good, though the announcer is truly annoying and is easily avoided.

The controls for the gameplay are laid out very well, making it easy to work through even the most difficult shots. It takes a few times with the controsl to get the hang of them, though once done, it makes it easy to do.

The online play is the top aspect of the title, with enough variety in courses to keep interest, though the play online with other golfers is where the title shines. More courses are downloadable, so that adds to the future gameplay, and it's easy enough to have more appear further along in the future.

Overall, Links 2004 is a game that looks very good, sounds good, and plays well, off or online. Worth picking up for any golfing enthusiast out there.

Strengths: Graphics, Control, Gameplay

Weakness: Small roster of Pro's to choose from

The Links series of golf games have been a solid mainstay on PC and Microsoft has brought the series to the X-box console with Links 2004. While the game isn't as simulation-heavy as the PC series, it has a lot of the feel of that especially when compared with the Tiger Woods golf titles. The controls are excellent and offer great touch, especially with the spin control of the stick and adapt well with Microsoft's controller. Multiplayer on X-box LIVE is well done and there are different modes in the game along with numerous unlockables for increasing replay value. For those golf fans looking for a nice alternative to the Tiger Woods golf games, one can do no wrong in picking up Links 2004.

A good XSN title

Strengths: Presentation, graphics, Easy Learning Curve

Weakness: Announcer lacks polish, very disjointed speech.

Links 2004 has a good presentation with interesting camera angles and lens effects. I'm not sure if it has music or not, but it's golf and doesn't need it to stay interesting.

The graphics are really good, with some nice animations. The game flow is good, and you can skip most movies(not the developer/publisher logos at start up though).

I will say that the ball seems a little bit floaty, but I can't hit a ball very high or far in real life. Maybe these things hang longer than I think.

Links 2004 is pretty easy to pick up and play, if you read the manual or do the in game tutorial. I could see it being complicated to figure out on your own.

Overall I am very happy with this game, and look forward to putting in some more play time.

Not Bad, not Tiger Woods

Strengths: Gameplay

Weakness: Lack of players

This was right up there with Tiger Woods. I have played Tiger Woods exclusively, but after purchasing Links, I really enjoyed the gameplay. Too bad they have not made another game for the Xbox because I believe it would have given a great alternative to the TW series. Two thumbs up for this golf game!

Strengths: Good controls, nice graphics, most-realistic golf game, online play

Weakness: Not many pros to choose from

Links 2004 is an excellent golf game that leans more toward simulation than other console golf games. The game is very nice looking with courses that are instantly recognizable. The player animations are smooth as well and they entire presentation is very nicely done.

Your player's swing is controlled by moving the left analog stick back and forth and it simulates a golf swing well. You can put spin on the ball prior to hitting it by using the right analog stick. The game also offers a lot of options on the type of shots you hit by allowing you to easily choose between shots ranging from blast shots to flops. This adds a lot to the depth of the game and offers you a lot of ways to approach each hole.

This game offers nine courses, but more can be downloaded on Xbox Live. The multiplayer on Live is also very nicely done.

The main single player mode offers plenty of challenges and tournaments that allow you to unlock a variety of equipment.

Overall, this is an excellent golf game that stands up well to even the newest competitors.

Strengths: Nice online play/interface. Good recreation of real-life courses.

Weakness: Lacks polish. Not as much of a sim as previous Links games.

Recently, if golfing fans wanted a decent golf game on a console, they'd have to choose EA's Tiger Woods series. Microsoft brings the Links series to the consoles to take on Tiger's dominanace.

The old Links games on the PC used to be about recreating the golf experience to a tee. Real courses, realistic conditions and (sometimes frustrating) hazards. These days they seemed to be squarely aimed at Tiger's model. Hyping up golf isn't something easy to do, but Tiger's arcadey play and hollywood production values add a sheen to the greens of the game. Links doesn't quite match Tiger in that respect, but instead adds some subtle touches to enhance the experience and bring you that much closer to the look and feel of a real course.

The online play is great. XSN sports allows for a range of seasons, tournaments, and other challenges with the integrated web site, making players just a click away from stats and the Links community.

Links may not be as flashy as Tiger, but it's the game that counts and that's what Links delivers.
