Tak and the Power of Juju

Strengths: Controls most of the time

Weakness: dark video & rediculous difficulty

I enjoyed the first half of this game, until the largest brink wall in the history of gaming was put forth in front of me. There is a series of "chicken" level where you manipulate, shoot, and coax chickens into various platform, etc. At first this isn't terribly annoying- but by the 12th chicken level you will be SO fed up with this stupid gaming convention you will want to toss you gamecube out the window. The last level I played made me realize that a bunch of sadistic punks at THQ came up with this miserable game. It's a timed balance of acrobatics, stealth, mixed with exploding eggs, platforms, and chickens who will attack you and break your fragile little egg, and you will have to do it ALL OVER AGAIN- and we're not talking just restarting a level- we're talking at least 20-30 minutes of chicked coaxing until you can open the door to enen attempt trying again! Not this isn't Billy Hatcher- it is just plain garbage. The worst levels in the history of gaming!

I will honestly say to date- that these chicken levels are amongst the more poorly conceived, time wasting things you could ever do. Don't play them- turn it off- YOU WILL NEVER COMPLETE THEM. Don't bother- words cannot express how bad these levels are!

The saddest thing is that the majority of the rest of the game was quite good- too bad they spoiled it all with some fried eggs!

It's kind of disheartening that the last great action game for GameCube was last year's Super Mario Sunshine. Aside from Sonic retreads there's not much that's been worth noting recently, but that hasn't stopped companies from releasing their own attempts. In this case it's THQ who have come out with the Nickelodeon-branded Tak and the Power of Juju. Tak is targeted toward the underage crowd, but...

TakPowerJuju

The platform genre is overpopulated with friendly, wise cracking, furry critters all too happy to partake in lengthy collect-a-thons. With well-known names like Mario, Sonic, Wario, and Crash Bandicoot constantly seizing the headlines and newbies like Vexx, Vince, or Ty overlooked because they follow too closely to the generic collect-a-thon model, it's risky for companies and gamers to invest in...
