Strengths: Implementation of RB1 songs in career mode, Better online modes, Just plain fun.
Weakness: Songs are not as good.
The Rock Band franchise has to be the best game for your buck out there. This game just raises the level from the first to a new rock band feel as you do shows on the road. There is no more tiered songs like in the past. You now get various songs to play and sometimes you don't even know what you are playing and some you get to choose what you want to play.
Graphics haven't really changed and the customization is pretty much the same. Unfortunetaly, the achievements are geared more towards finishing 100% in expert level which is way too tough for me. All in all it is a great game to play locally or with friends online. I highly suggest this game if you liked the first.

Strengths: All the same great things that were found in Rock band.
Weakness: None
Roock band 2 is liek Rock band. It really only has one major improvement I've seen, which is the world tour. now instead of doing 4 tours for each instrument you just do oen tour and can switch around. The setlist is massive if you injlcude 95% of the songs from RB1 plus all the downloadable content. There's more band options and the same great gameplay. Rock band 2 is awesome and highlyr recommended.
Strengths: Characters no longer fixed to one instrument, online band world tour, ability to import nearly all original Rock Band songs
Weakness: Inability to import original Rock Band characters
One of my gripes with the original Rock Band was that every character you created was locked into a certain instrument, with no possibility of switching among them. That's fixed in Rock Band 2. Another was the need to have your friends in the same place to play as a band, which wasn't always practical. Now you can be miles apart. This, among some other small graphical and gameplay changes, makes this a very good sequel. If only band members could be imported from the original.
Weakness: Hardly does anything new that Rock Band 1 doesn't do
Did you enjoy Rock Band 1? If so, you'll like this game as well. It doesn't do anything new to the series, other than the music, but I think most people will find that acceptable. It's great that you can transfer all but three of the Rock Band 1 songs for $5 on to the hard drive. All your DLC will transfer (for free). Visuals are slightly updated and it's as fun as always.
Strengths: Still one of the best party games around
Weakness: Some iffy song choices
Honestly, Rock Band 2 doesn't do a whole lot different from 1, but it's pretty much a case of if it's not broke, don't fix it. A nice addition is the ability to play World Tour single player, so even if your friends aren't around, you can still enjoy the rock band campaign. My biggest grip, and it's simply a matter of personal preference, is that in order to appeal to a wider audience, they put in some very, in my humble opinion, poor song choices. There was a call for more female vocals, but that lead to the inclusion of such songs as "One Way or Another" by Blondie and "We Got the Beat" by the Go-Go's. These songs are decidedly NOT rock. But aside from these and a couple other choice songs, the chance to have nearly 500 (if you have all the Downloadable content, the songs on the disc, and the fact you can export the Rock Band 1 disc to your hard drive to play in Rock Band 2) makes this truly an amazing party game.
Those who lived the dream and gained fame and glory with Harmonixs original Rock Band are sure to find this one a hit. Building on the success of the original, Rock Band 2 adds new features, such as the ability to take the band online and a freestyle jam mode which lets you play drums freely with the track. With over 100 on-disc tracks, and backwards compatibility with original Rock Band...
