Strengths: Wider variety of Pokemon; addictive gameplay; familiar interface
Weakness: nothing new gameplay wise
Pokemon are one of the most successful portable gaming franchises period. If you get past the stigma of Pokemon affliated with younger gamers, the RPG elements are actually pretty addictive to even adult gamers.
This time, Pokemon Emerald builds upon the previous Pokemon titles by adding in more reclusive Pokemon characters, old and new. You don't need a gameshark to "cheat" your way to unlocking certain Pokemons because you can do it the old fashioned way with Pokemon Emerald linking your previous games. Of course, it is infinitely more time consuming and you need your fair share of luck.
Though bringing in more Pokemon characters is definitely better, you have to wonder if the gameplay presentation has gotten a little static. It is beyond refinement at this point, so hopefully, the next Pokemon title on GBA or DS can bring about a different spin on the interface while commensurately, bring in more Pokemon characters to unlock.
This is a value buy for Pokemon fans that have previous games--you need it for a complete collection. For those wanting to get a taste of Pokemon for the first time, it is an excellent way to immerse yourself in the gameplay.

Strengths: -New Content
-Includes storylines from both Ruby and Sapphire
-New Animations
Weakness: -Still too similar to Ruby/Sapphire that owners of those games may pass and leave this to the hardcore Pokemon players
I bought this for my younger brother last month and he cannot put it down since. Kids, teens, and adults all follow the Pokemon craze and Emerald just brings the fans more of what the love. This is the third version of this Pokemon generation, similar to the Yellow version and Crystal version of the past. Emerald takes Ruby and Sapphire and adds to it, so it will not disappoint fans of the series. Those who already have those games may pass on this though, to me having multiple versions of the same generation is only for the really huge Pokemon fans. There isn't much to say to anyone who's played a Pokemon game before, its what you expect plus a bit more. To newcomers, Emerald is a good start because you can catch creatures from both the previous versions and storylines from both as well. Happy Catching =)

Strengths: A larger amount of catchable Pokemon, several new challenges
Weakness: Many of the best additions are not available until after beating the main game
Pokemon Emerald is a remake of the Ruby/Sapphire games for GBA, with some new additions such as an extended Battle Frontier and the ability to replay gym battles. Anyone who missed the Ruby and Sapphire games should definitely pick this one up. For long-time players of this series, Emerald has some new tricks, but may be too familiar to those looking for the next big change in Pokemon

Strengths: All the great upgrades of Ruby/Saphire (Secret bases, running, gender selection) but with bonuses geared towards the hardcore. There is even a whole new area to explore with unique badge challenges
Weakness: It's just an upgrade of Ruby/Saphire, not a brand new game. If you already played Ruby/Saphire you can pass on this unless you are really into training. It's geared for that.
I love pokemon, and I'm quite fond of the Ruby/Saphire versions. So this Upgrade is great for me. Of course, if I wasn't such a pokemon nut, it would be silly to get it. But I am and this game was tailor made for us nuts in mind. It's geared for breeding and training the best pokemon. It also provides tough challenges for your super pokemon as well, in a new area, to boot! I have a soft spot for secret bases, and there is more furniture to decorate with. Oh and the pokemon now have so-so animations as well. To finish: People want to try pokemon, but haven't yet should try this game. Casual players should not bother, unless you can get a good price or something. People who really like pokemon should look into this to see if it seems worth it. It was for me.

I bought this for my son since he spent countless hours playing the Pokemon Ruby. It's very similar to the previous game with a few enhancement. There's the natural draw because it is a Pokemon game but it doesn't seem to pack enough differences to really stand out from the previous version. The graphics and features don't compare very well to most of the games being released, but he loves the gameplay and that's what it's all about anyway. I recommend it for any 5-10 year old Pokeman addict.

Strengths: Tons of pokemon to collect, green cart, same great gameplay
Weakness: same as ruby and sapphire
This is a pretty good game. It is pretty much the same as ruby and sapphire. There are tons of pokemon to collect, trade, and train. There are tons of trainers to beat. The green cart is awesome as well. Overall, pretty good game.

Strengths: same enjoyable gameplay that has made pokemon as popular as it is; all the updates made for Ruby/Sapphire, as well as some new features
Weakness: not very different than Ruby/Sapphire; graphics not that impressive
This is a fun game, is a pretty good length, has a great deal of replay value, and has a substantial number of updates when compared to the gameboy and gameboy color games. The graphics are better than the games prior to Ruby/Sapphire, but I don't think they are improved at all from Ruby/Sapphire. The graphics are not great - but then, they never have been (the original games were actually kind of ugly at times), and it doesn't really detract from the game anyway.
If you enjoy the pokemon series and have not yet played Ruby or Sapphire, this is definitely worth a try.

Strengths: Replay value, link up play, Battle Frontier
Weakness: Same style pokemon game as before
This game is Pokemon: Emerald, and comes after all of the other Game Boy Pokemon games. It uses the same formula and adds a new feature or two. There is a new place in this game called the Battle Frontier, it is a place at the end of the game to battle against the toughest trainers. This game features a long single player story, and also of course you can link up with a link cable or wirelessly to battle your friends or to trade pokemon. If you are new to Pokemon, this is a great game to start at.

Bought this for my grandson for Christmas. It was the top thing on his list and I had trouble finding it anywhere. Was very pleased with this purchase from this seller.

The first Pokémon games hit the U.S. back in 1998. Since that time, there have ten games released in the regular series . If you want to get really technical, you can count the Japanese version of Pokémon Blue, which was slightly different than the U.S. one (which was called Pokémon Green in Japan. Now with the release of Pokémon Emerald, that brings the total of real Pokémon games up to an...
