I was hoping this game would be better. I LOVED the SNES version of NBA Jam. The camera is choppy, and slopes the wrong direction when you jump. The big heads just look ridiculous, and a lot of the dunks are just silly looking. NBA Ballers is much better.
With the explosion of the streetball scene, and the success of NBA Street it should come as no surprise that Acclaim has sought to breath new life into its moribund NBA Jam franchise. The newest version captures, with varying degrees of success, the fun and silliness that made NBA Jam one of the favorite games of my misspent youth.
Back in the day, NBA Jam was a groundbreaking game. It brought arcade sports and sports gaming to the mainstream and was one of those rare titles that was loved by sports freaks, game geeks, and casual gamers alike. It was two-on-two basketball where the big dunk and three-pointer ruled and playing good defense was as much about knocking your opponent on his ass as it was swatting the ball back...
