Seagate Barracuda ATA V 80 GB Internal Hard Drive -...

Strengths: Stable Quite and small cables for better airflow

Weakness: none

These Seagate SATA HD's are sweet. They are so quiet I wondered if they were working. The connections are fool proof as they use an L shape. Installation in a primary striped array on the A7N8X deluxe took a little to long. This was mostly due to poor documentation by Asus. Although their board is super stable. Its a first in technology so I will let the fine fellas at Asus pass on it, hoping for future boards and manuels to have better intallation doc's. The HD's are silent, sweet, and stable (very). I do begrudge the cable makers as I am unable to find a 6inch SATA cable as of yet. The 18" defeats some of the astetic purpose of the array and airflow. Im sure they will come later. The drives might not be as fast as the fastest ATA HD's, but the cabling and future bandwidth possibillities make them worth it.

Seagate Barracuda ATA V 80 GB Internal Hard Drive -...

Strengths: very fast, very quiet when reading or idle. SATA interface.

Weakness: noisy when writing. I can hear the disk ticking even though it is under the desk

I expected very good things from this Seagate drive. At work we order the ide drives and they are the most quiet drives I have never heard. I was also expecting good things from the SATA interface. When the drive arrived I installed the power adapter and plugged in the power and signal cables without difficulty. When it came to booting the drive I had some trouble. I first needed to define the "array" in the ASUS bios so it would see the disk. I then tried to install XP but the installation setup would not see the drive. I booted to a spare ide drive and downloaded Seagate's Discwizard 2003. I then used that to copy the entire partition from the ide drive to the SATA drive and make it bootable. No problems after that except for the write noise. Purchased from Googlegear with no problems.
