Strengths: Great set of puzzles wrapped up in a stylish presentation and story
Weakness: N/A
Professor Layton and the Curious Village is basically a puzzle game. However, it is encased in a point and click adventure with an excellent story. To progress in the story you must solve various puzzles (some required and some optional). The puzzles themselves are found using the stylus in a point-and-click adventure fashion. You can also find hint tokens that you can use to unlock clues about particularly tough puzzles. The main game will not have much in the way of replayability because once you solve the puzzles it will be easy (and less interesting) to go through it again. However, Nintendo provides new puzzles fairly frequently for download which extends the gameplay quite a bit.

Professor Layton is a fantastic new series from RPG experts Level 5 (Dragon Quest VIII, Rogue Galaxy) that Nintendo was kind enough to bring over to the US this year. With two more games to follow in the trilogy (already confirmed for release here), puzzle fans will be more than satisfied with the challenge provided hour after hour by the Professor and his pupil.

This game contains the best entertaining puzzles and riddles to solve. The game has a great plot story so you can entertain yourself with the puzzles along with the mystery of the plot. The games has almost 135 puzzles to solve and the best thing is you have to look for it. Besides the good cinema graphics and very good use of the stylus. This game is a must have for the puzzles fans and it also helps you improve your thinking skills.

Strengths: Lots of puzzles. Most not too hard but can stump you for a minute or two.
Weakness: Some of the puzzles are repetative or common.
Prof. layton is a good game at what it does. It presents a series of brainteasers, riddles, logic equations, misdirection, and just plain puzzlers to do, well anything. Wnat to crossa door? Puzzle. Want to ask for directions? Puzzle. Waht to buy a glazed ham? Puzzle. While some of the puzzles are old, and others repetative, in generall they're fairly balanced and not two hard. I can complese most puzzles in a minute or tow and so far have only been stumped on 4 out of 70.
One nice thing is when the puzzles run out, you can download more via the internet.
Strengths: Challenging puzzles, great storyline, impressive graphics
Weakness: None apparent
Professor Layton and the Curious Village is the story of Professor Layton, who visits a village that is brimming to the top with puzzles of all types and sizes. The puzzles range in challenge from easy to extremely hard, and with each puzzle solved opens up more of the storyline of the village. The game looks great and is challenging from beginning to end, and it a fantastic and unique game for the DS.
Strengths: Strong story and characters, lots of great puzzles
Weakness: A few lame puzzles
Professor Layton and the Curious Village is an excellent game that combines two genres flawlessly. At once both a brain trainer type of game and text-adventure style game, Layton succeeds with charming graphics and music, likable characters, and dozens of great puzzles. The only flaw is that some of the puzzles are lame, though they make up a small fraction of the 120 included. Highly recommended.
Professor Layton and the Curious Village is an excellent collection of brain teasers wrapped up in a point and click style adventure game. There is a good variety of puzzles that range from minor math based puzzles to logic puzzles. The art style and story are both endearing, but many of the puzzles don't exactly fit smoothly into the progressing story arc. That certainly doesn't take away from the fact that this is one of the best "brain" games available for the DS.
Strengths: Interesting characters, plot, animation and great puzzles
Weakness: Puzzle difficulty gauge not always accurate
If you like brain teasers or logic puzzles, this is a must buy. The puzzles alone without any additional content would still be highly recommended.
As it is, the game wraps these puzzles up in great graphics, fun characters, side quests/item collection and cut scenes- with good voice acting!
Occasionally, a puzzle can become frustrating, and hints can be bought with coins. Only once was there a puzzle I found difficult and which the hints did not do a good job in helping out, but eventually I did figure out the answer.
For replay value, there have been a number of weekly puzzles that got unlocked you could play through, and once you get a puzzle in the game, you can play it any time.
I am talking a lot about the puzzles, but really, Layton and his assistant are great, fleshed out characters and the story is surprisingly deep.
Strengths: Good for people who like solving puzzles and riddles. Good graphics.
Weakness: If you do not like to read stories or solve puzzles and riddles, then the game may seem long for you.
A good game if you like to solve puzzles and riddles. If you like reading stories and don't mind taking the time to solve the various puzzles, then this game is good. If you like fast action and quick results, then this may be a bit too slow for a person to play. Otherwise, the game has nice graphics and can be a pretty fun game when you solve a puzzle. If you get frustrated easily and don't like solving puzzles, then it might drive you crazy if you can't solve it. Sometimes I'll give it to someone else to help me along in the quest. If you have patience with the game, that will help too.
Strengths: A lot of puzzle content, fair storyline to tie them together
Weakness: Difficulty of some puzzles, no replayability
Professor Layton is basically one giant box of puzzles. Logic puzzles, word puzzles, spatial puzzles, etc. If you think think of it, it's somewhere in the game. The plot, while interesting is only the plot device to take you from puzzle to puzzle. Solving each one will earn you points as well as items needed to access further content in the game. There are also hint coins hidden throughout, which can be found by touching the stylus to certain elements of the background. These coins can then be redeemed for hints on any puzzle you're stuck on.
Despite its kid-friendly graphics and storytelling, this isn't really a game for kids. Well, unless your kid is a puzzle brainiac, that is. Most adults will struggle on many of these and at times no number of hints will help you get past a puzzle. Luckily enough, there are some FAQs online which list all the answers as a last resort. Otherwise, I'm sure many of us would be pulling our hair out.
All in all, the game is engaging and can be pulled out anywhere just to pass the time. The puzzles all have a difficulty rating which can give you an idea of how complex they'll be and some can be bypassed and skipped until later.
Strengths: Good story line, nice graphics, tons of puzzles to work your brain, weekly new puzzle WiFi download a bonus!
Weakness: The music gets a little tiring after a while. Not much replay value once you have solved all the puzzles.
A very nicely done game. I loved solving puzzles even when I was a kid. This game has excellent collection of puzzles, covering pretty much every possible category of puzzles you can imagine. The story progresses slowly, and a lot of people you encounter want you to solve a puzzle for no or whatever reason. Sometimes they seemed to be quite irrelevant to the story, but a puzzle is a puzzle and I don't mind solving them!
Most puzzles are not too difficult, but some can be quite challenging. I've seen all kinds of puzzles before, so I recognize most of them and can easily solve them. However, I did have to spend a good deal of time thinking over some hard ones, and had to use hint coins a couple of times, but nothing really impossible to solve here. Some math skill is needed, but not too extensive. Sometimes just by reading the question more carefully you will find the answer right in front of you. The math part is just a distraction! You can draw, write, type, etc. on screen using the stylus depending on the puzzle, and clear it again and again until you believe you have the right answer. Very nice.
My 10 year old girl loves playing this game. We would play together half an hour before bed time everyday, going over some half dozen puzzles. She could solve most of them by herself, and only needed a hint from time to time for those that's somewhat harder. There were a few times that all of us had to think hard, and yet still got it wrong!
Overall, this is an excellent game for the whole family. It may be difficult for very young children (6 or younger) as some math will be needed, but there are still a lot of puzzles that's not math related.
I highly recommend this game. Will actually give it 4.5 stars if allowed.
I have enjoyed playing this game so far. It has helped me to use more brain power than most of the games out there. I enjoy the graphics and the storyline is good. And the vast majority of the questions are at a perfect difficulty. I would suggest people who like to think and learn play this game, but it is not for everyone. Borrow someone's before purchasing it to make sure you are getting your money's worth.
Strengths: The puzzles are entertaining and the presentation is great.
Weakness: I have not found any.

I have played every “brain” game made for the Nintendo DS system. Beyond the single-objective goal such as playing chess, this brain-development genre is fun, frustrating and engaging. There have been some great hits, and humbling misses (ahem—“Left Brain Right Brain”). I like being challenged by puzzles and being tested, but I am weary from being lectured by a floating head (a la...
