Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance

Strengths: Excellent Graphics, Good Character Design, and Excellent Replay Value

Weakness: Not 4 player and Only 3 types of Characters to choose from

I actually rented this game, but, i would definately rent it again. Engrossive story line, and an excellent gauntletesque hack-n-slash style kept the game interesting and fun. 2 player mode is definately worth it. Once you beat the game, it unlocks gauntlet mode where you get to play Drizzt Do Urden, and take on swarms of monsters. That part is hard as hell, but, after that, you get the option of going through the game again with the character that you played with the first time, adding more variations of weapons, armour, and difficulty. Would definately recommend this to anyone.

A year late to the party with little to show for it....

Strengths: Solid D&D atmosphere, excellent graphics/audio, good action RPG game play, two-player campaign support

Weakness: Another port of an old PS2 game, no new content or extras, cliffhanger ending

While Xbox and Gamecube eventually got their own ports of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, only PS2 owners got to play it when it first came out. The later Xbox port does everything that the PS2 version did, but you don't get any new content or extras for your money despite the wait.

Dark Alliance remains a solid action role-playing game on Xbox with all of the great game play, graphics and audio capabilities that it had on PS2. The attention to detail and D&D authenticity here is just staggering in terms of the graphics and audio, so it's a shame the series ended after just one sequel when the developer went to Sony's Champions series exclusively.

With that being said, Dark Alliance is a great title for beginners and genre fans alike and has the added bonus of being relatively inexpensive to come by. Unfortunately, Dark Alliance 2 didn't sell nearly as well and commands a hefty retail price today (even used). Genre fans may also want to try the similar Champions series on PS2.

Baldur's Gate finally comes to the console

Strengths: Amazing action RPG; incredible atmosphere and level of detail; simple yet fun gameplay

Weakness: No extras compared to the PS2 version

Baldur's Gate is a longstanding series on the PC. However, its debut on the XBOX was a welcome change since we don't see too many fantasy RPGs in its game library. Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance doesn't fail to impress. The production values in this game are simply amazing. The atmosphere and incredible level of detail really enhance the gameplay experience, which happens to be simple yet very addictive. I only wish that the XBOX version had a few extras compared to its PS2 cousin released a year prior. If you own an XBOX and are starved for fantasy RPGs, do yourself a favor and pick this game up.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance

As a growing fan of RPGs, I’ve invested countless of hours exploring the fantasy world of Morrowind and craving for even more role-playing titles for the Xbox . . . seeing as the PS2 has been getting all the real good ones (Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, etc.). Last year the PS2 managed to squeeze in Dark Alliance from the popular Baldur’s Gate series for the PC and boy was it a great game....
