Strengths: Multiplayer, customization, just plain fun
Weakness: Missions are tough
After picking up Chromehounds recently (and how could any XBox 360 owner pass up a game for under $20?!?), I must say I'm very surprised... and in a completely positive way too..
How often is it that you find a game that is genuinely fun and interesting to play that was THIS FAR under the radar?
Chromehounds on the surface has a definite receipt
for success. Giant robotic machines and shooting should normally have fan boys and girls line up around the block to play a game with this concept, people DID buy the Gundam game on the PS3, afer all.
Chromehounds has the coolness factor, but it is also pretty good too. The multiplayer is a major strong point and for those with XBox live, you will soon find your life in the death grip of this game. Clans are all over the place too, so if you find yourself playing this online for too long, it's probably a good idea to hook up with a good clan.
The game is, from top to bottom, a fun destruction and explosion themed experience. SEGA seems to be focusing on some strong machine/gun style games with this game and Full Auto. Both are better than anyone would give them credit for and both are MORE than worth checking out.

This game is built for multiplayer. But the problem is that it came out more than 2 years ago, so its online plays are almost dead. Then its single play is so short and a kind of preface for the multiplayer mode. So it is almost useless now...
Weakness: Weak single player.
Dead online community
Microtransactions.
I bought this game after it's been out for a while. I was expecting a robust multiplayer game, which it is, but the community has all but died. I just wish I had bought the game when it first came out. From what little I have played, it could be a fun game.
Weakness: Single player is boring and an afterthought
Chromehounds is a mech combat action game that is best known for its team based online multiplayer mode. This is definitely the strength of this game and its primary appeal. The fact that you can customize and design your own mechs is an added plus and makes you look unique on your team when playing online. If you don't have XBOX Live, don't bother buying this game because the single player campaign mode seems like an afterthought and is uninspired. This game is intended for those gamers who play online.
Chromehounds is a mech (or "hound") fighting game in which you control a large vehicle armed with various weapons against either computer-controlled vehicles or other people over Xbox Live. There is a fairly short (10 hours or so) single-player game that is enjoyable, though it could have been longer. It consists of about 6 missions for each of 6 different types of hounds (soldier, scout, commander, etc). As you complete this you unlock parts that can be used in assembling your own hound. You can use this in the single-player missions or online. the hound creation is pretty onvolved and you could spend a lot of time on this aspect.
The online portion consists of an ongoing 3-way war between the fictional nations of the single-player campaign. You and a group of friends can form a squad and join one of the factions. There, you can either battle computer-controlled enemies or other people. The wars last a few weeks or so and then it is all reset and started over again. So you have ample opportunity to try out each faction (each of which has different hound parts that you can buy with the money you earn from battles). The only disappointing aspect of the online portion is that you need to play it quite extensively to get even a small number of the achievements. Most of the achievements are for online only play and most of those require repeated play or are nearly impossible (you need to be the best squad for a given war, etc).
Fortunately, this game is a good buy (especially now as it can be found for under $30) even for the single-player campaign. The multiplayer aspect just provides additional options if you are so inclined.
Chromehounds is a mech game which has a rather short single player campaign in which you get to customize your mech. The details of the mechs are pretty good but the surrounding aren't really all that great to look at. This game is mainly good for the multiplayer component. I actually preferred the mechassault games over chromehounds.
Strengths: Online Play, Realistic dynamics, Good graphics
Weakness: Little slow story
Extensive customization of your "hound" with the ability to tweak many of the settings. Much better than MechAssault. Very good mix of action and strategy-driven decision-making. Single player campaign good, but online play awesome.
Strengths: Good mech action, quite immersive, fun to play
Weakness: A little sparse graphically at times, can move slow, controls sometimes are a bit off (but they're ok most of the time)
I really love mech games and was excited about picking this game up when it came out. It took a while but I finally got the game and am quite happy with it.
Sega takes a bit of the middle ground with this game. It's quite sim-like (obviously it's no Steel Battalion) while still trying to be fun. For the most part they succeed. It is a slower game overall but has good action. The graphics may not be entirely what you'd expect from the Xbox 360 but the gameplay is very immersive and really pulls you into the world they're presenting.
I should add that I don't have Xbox Live Gold, so I haven't played online. I don't agree with many reviews that the game is worthless if you don't play online. It's still a lot of fun, just maybe not everything you may expect. But everything I've heard about the game online is that it's absolutely fantastic.
Overall, many reviews say this game is boring and not fun unless you play online. I would say if you like mech games at all you absolutely must try this out, even as a rental. Sega delivers a very compelling experience for the 360 and now at its new budget prices, there's no excuse not to try it out.
If you like mechs and slow moving action, this is the game for you. Developed by the same folks that bring the Armored Core series, Chromehounds sports wonderful mech customization and really good graphics. Unfortunately, the single player campaign is quite disappointing. The environments in the missions are bland and the single player basically turns out to be mech training. Online gameplay is the strength of the game.
If you are looking for a good robot game, go for Chromehounds, not Armored Core 4. From the same guys who made Armored Core, Chromehounds is a online game with a large campaign, but relatively small single offline player campaign, which is kinda disappointing. I still don't have Xbox Live Gold, but its still a fun game. Customization has many customizations, but its very complicated. It took me 10 minutes to design a decal and place it in the right place. Overall, Chromehounds is a solid game which was underappriciated, while Core 4 got lots of focus, but botched it.
Strengths: Build and customize you own Mec (robot). Lots of Great Firepower. Big explosions. GREAT Multiplayer. Multiple missions to learn the dif ways to play.
Weakness: SLOW pace at first. Missions objective is not ALWAYS clear and if you miss it your Sergent will not repeat it. Have to earn the pieces to build you mech. Building explosions could be better.
This game ROX! as long as you can get past the slow start... I Love IT! I am usually not a war game person but I LOVED this. Freeplay is even better for the JOY of destruction!!! Then the Multiplayer is the true TEST!

As a mercenary mech pilot in a alternate timeline version of Earth, you have been hired to execute the tactical requirements of an ongoing ground war. And when I say war I mean WAR. There is no wussy aircraft, no naval defense, nope, just you driving a massive hardcore robot, loaded to the hilt with enough destructive weaponry to destroy other massive hardcore robots. And by the way, hounds are...
Mechs and Explosions = Fun!
