Need for Speed meets Fast and the Furious

Strengths: great graphics, good sense of speed, long replay value, good customization

Weakness: needs better soundtrack, more variety in races

Need for Speed Underground is a good game for anyone interesting in the racing genre. It's the first time the series has gone to the street racing route and it does it pretty well. Exaggerated blurring gives a great sense of speed, especially when using nitrous. The game is a bit challenging and will require you to retry a few times. The game is pretty long to beat, although some of the races seem like you're just playing over and over. Nevertheless, NFSU is a good game for any racing fan and very cheap as well

Need for Speed Underground

Strengths: gameplay, customization, variety of cars and tracks, graphics

Weakness: A.I.

Need for Speed Underground is one heck of a racing game. No other game have let you customize your car to this degree of detail. You can change certain body parts of your rice rocket such as the front and rear bumper, spoiler, hood, scoof, and skirt. You can also change the paint of numerous things like the tint of the window and rims. You can also add neon lights and vinyls to pimp out your car.

The gameplay is almost exactly like Hot Pursuit, but you now have NOS, which is basically turbo. There are a great variety of race types (race, drift, drag, sprint) and tracks. To unlock all the tracks, cars, and customizable parts you must play through the single player campaign. The campaign is freakishly long: a good 50-70 hours. There will be a lot of restarts because there will be moments where you hit incoming vehicle and crash you ride dragging you from 1st and last. Other than this, NFSU is one of the best arcade game up to date.

Best NFS yet

Strengths: Cars, graphics, traffic

Weakness: NA

I love this game. I play car racing sims all the time and this is one of the best (the other being Gran Turismo). The cars in this game are great and can be customized in many different ways (engine sepcs, tires, etc). The graphics are unbelievable and the option to add traffic adds a whole new level of difficulty to racing games. There really isn't anything that I could find that was bad about the game. It's just different from GT. So depending on your gaming style you might like it more or less than GT.

Need for Speed: Underground

Strengths: Great graphics, incredible racing, and a great number of parts and accesories.

Weakness: Not a whole lot freedom in your car.

This game is great for any gamer who is the least bit interested in racing games. This is by far the best installment in the Need for Speed series yet. When you hit the nitrous oxide for the first time you'll be amazed by the realism that you feel. I would recommend this game to anyone and everyone.

Need for Speed: Underground

Strengths: Awesome graphics, attention to detail, realistic simulation, and online capability

Weakness: Learning curve may be too steep

I found that this game was awesome. You could could customize lots of things on the car like decals and engine. It really gives you the real street racing feel and kudos to that. However, it may be a little frustrating learning to use manual transmission while racing. You have to keep your eye on both the gauge and the road, and it can be a little complicated for newbies. However, the graphics rock!

Need for Speed: Underground

Strengths: The graphics and totally customizable cars.

Weakness: None.

People said that the graphics in this game were good, but I didn't know they were this good. These graphics a truly amazing. The cars in this game look very realistic and the tracks do to. The customization of cars is great. You can take a 350Z, Civic, 240SX, Skyline, and many other great cars and transform them into great custom cars. This game is truly a "must own".

Weakness: None that i can think of

This is by far, the best street racing game i have ever seen. The career mode is awesome. This is the Gran Turismo of street racing. Go out and get it now!

Need for Speed: Underground

Strengths: Adjustable traffic condition, nice graphics, plenty of parts to install and customize.

Weakness: No replay mode, not a lot to choose from in terms of cars.

If you're looking for a Gran Turismo(=GT) type of racing sim, this game might NOT be for you. On the other hand, if you're into more arcade style racing (in other words, being able to play the game without worrying too much about the physics behind driving a car), then this is a great game. The learning curve is way lower than trying to learn how to drive a car in GT4. As others have mentioned, the graphics on this game looks good, though Gran Turismo 4 does have better looking cars. There's plenty of mods you can apply to your vehicle, though I don't really see any difference in performance between using a particular brand (i.e. HKS) versus any other.

One of my favorite feature about this game (and all the NFS series) is the ability to control the amount of traffic on road. Having to dodge oncoming and parallel traffic while speeding along at high speed adds a level of realism and excitement to the game. If you've only been playing the GT series, you're missing out.

Control is tight (as it should be), audio tracks are nice and suit the game's theme of the import racing scene, though I do get quite tired of the same sound track over and over again.

The Drift and Drag events are definitely something I think unique to this game and worth a try.

One thing I wish they would have included was a replay feature, like the one in GT. There were plenty of spectacular crashes I wish I can replay and store for later viewing.

Since I haven't played it long enough, I can't comment on the number of cars available in this game, but so far, it's been a bit limited in terms of what car you can use for the Underground races.

Overall, this is a good racing game to pick up and enjoy over and over again, especially if you've ever wondered what it's like to drag race around the city at night. You won't be disappointed.

NFS Underground

Strengths: Cars, graphics and sound

Weakness: N/A

This street racing game is awesome. The cars and the city streets look realistic. Attention to details is incredible. You can make the car drift, oversteer and understeer if you want. The soundtrack is pretty good too. The career mode, drift and drag events are very interesting. This is like the Gran Turismo series on street racing. Go get it!

NFS: Underground

Strengths: Visual, soundtrack

Weakness: N/A

NFS: Underground is one of the best street racing games in the market. The visual is stunning and realistic customized cars racing in cities and streets. The soundtrack and the roaring engine sound are awesome. Control is tight and you can do drift and drag.

Anyone at least remotely interested in car racing should give this game a try. You can also get NFS: Underground 2 for about the same price now. Other great racing games are the Gran Turismo series and the Burnout series. You won't be disappointed picking up any of these games!

Need for Speed Underground

Need For Speed series was one of the dominate series on the PSone. Its stellar use of speed, its maximization of the technology available, and its innovative (and much envied) Hot Pursuit mode made it the #1 racing game to get. The first Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit game was so successful that EA developed a direct sequel. It didn't quite live up to expectations, but was a good enough game to...

Need for Speed Underground

Electronic Arts is well-known for its famous Need for Speed racing franchise. Last year's Hot Pursuit 2 made a great impression on the gaming press, and went on to be one of the best racing titles of the year. A scant twelve months later, EA's at it again, although this time the focus of the game is illegal street racing. Reputation, pimped-out rides, slick imports and style are the name of the...

Need for Speed Underground

Only a year gone and Electronic Arts is already burning rubber with another Need for Speed title. Last year the publisher released Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2, a fantastic racer on the PlayStation 2, but one not quite as polished on other platforms. Since developer Black Box was responsible for the slick PS2 iteration, EA recruited them to develop the next in the franchise.
