Funny, but I wish it would have been better. It lacked a lot. Why is it even in comedy? I would have placed it in action or something, maybe Sci-fi. My opinion is that inorder for this movie to be a comedy, it would have to contain an exuberant amount of comedy. This did not. Plus it was a boring movie.
Wonderful movie. Tommy lee Jones and Will Smith are so great together in this movie. They play off each other exceptionally well. There are some unnecessarily gross parts of this movie, but overall it's hysterical. Pity the sequel wasn't as good.
It was kinda stupid, kinda funny. I enjoyed it up to a certain point but the movies pace did not feel right to me. But I like Will Smith so I have to give it at least a 3.
Released in 1997 and directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, "Men In Black" is a funny "comic book" film which is successful in achieving its goals. For the uninitiated, the film follows the adventures of secret agents K and J (ie the men in black) (Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith) who are responsible for keeping tabs on resident aliens from outer space, especially an extraterrestrial bug which is masquerading in the skin of one Edgar (Vincent D'Onofrio) and looking for a massive energy source called the "galaxy." The pair must stop the bug or the Earth will be destroyed. The supporting cast includes Linda Fiorentino as a mild love interest, Tony Shalhoub, David Cross, and Rip Torn as K and J's controller Zed. Viewers expecting a pure science fiction, alien film are missing the point as this movie is supposed to be light and true to is comic book origins. What makes it work is Tommy Lee Jones giving is typical larger than life straight performance teamed with Will Smith's persona and comedy. The bottom line is that "Men In Black" is a good and funny film for what it is and designed to be.
Cool, clever with a great cast. Tommy Lee Jones played his part perfectly, as his character took his job so seriously. Tony Shaloub was a delight as Jeebs. Vincent D'Onofrio was wonderful and funny as Edgar the Bug. A fun movie to watch.
It was a good idea of a movie, which is why it gets two stars. But, the acting is terrible, and Will Smith is a cheesy singer and actor. He's just not good at anything he does. The special effects were good, but not that outstanding. Not funny at all.
This movie was simply OK. The plot was totally unrealistic, but origional at the same time. Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith were pretty good in this film and gains it at least one point. This film is worth watching once, but it is pretty much forgettable in my book.
I liked this Men In Black better than the second. Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones play two agents in a headquarters where they hunt aliens in disguise as average humans. The Weapons were cool and the acting was also good. I suggest you see the first before the second one.
Hehehe...Will Smith is too adorable.. The movie was cool, and though some people thought it sucked, I saw it as a movie I'd like to see when I'm in the mood for some "Will Smith comedy"!!!! Definetly not one of Will's best movies, though..

What a forgettable film. As much as I like Will Smith, this movie is Hollywood at its worst. A formulaic plot that was clearly created in about 2 weeks as a blatant effort to cash in on the popularity of Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, as well as the public's craze for all things alien. This is one lousy movie - the special effects were cheap and gawdy, and the script could have been written by a third grader. The only reason that Men in Black doesn't get a "1" is because Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are good actors - they just can't help it - even when constrained by a moronic plot.

If you put Will Smith in a movie will someone as talented as Tommy Lee Jones, you know that you are going to have one messy movie. Men In Black is an extremly boring and unfunny comedy about a secret agent who picks up a partner off the streets and must save the universe from the planet of scum.
All conspiracy flicks have to give stylish, plausible, unexpected answers to forgotten everyday paradoxes and mysteries. "Men in Black" did all that and a bag of chips. Funny, smart, perfectly cast, even touching (though a bit icky-gross), this is more of a comedy of buddy cops than a Star-Trek type of sci-fi flick. I laughed so hard an alien came out of my chest.
Will Smith was never seen as a crime fighter until Bad Boys. But this movie set him above the rest. Bad Boys was good in its entirety, but he was able to bring humor and screen presence to at kind of horror type film. This movie could have just been another alien flick if Smith didn't pop in his one lineres and smart aleck remarks.
Creative, funny, captivating movie. There is nothing else like it. The movie was fun all the way through. I was never bored. It was probably due to the casting.
I liked this because it caught my attention from the beginning of the movie. What caught my attention was the guns that the division and agents used. They were very interesting. There was a lot of comedy and action. To make a good movie humor is needed.
This was a very funny movie with a great cast. Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith worked great together. I thought the story was very original and the script was witty and good.
This was a quirky, funny movie and truly original. The special effects were impressive as were the performances by Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. While it would seem like it would be an unusual pairing, the two meshed together perfectly.
